Outlook: From the last seed on The Ultimate Fighter, to cut from the UFC, to UFC champion – Moreno’s story is one of the most feel-good rises to championship status in recent memory. His title-winning performance against Figueiredo in their rematch was perhaps his career-best. He showcased the slick striking, particularly smooth boxing, that fueled his ascension to the divisional elite, as well as his submission skills that were his calling card during his first stint on the roster. The fight that probably makes sense for his first defense is Askar Askarov, whom Moreno fought to a split draw when the two fought in Mexico City in 2019. Figueiredo probably only needs a bounce-back win to earn a trilogy fight with Moreno, but in the form Moreno appears to be in at just 27 years old, he is set up to take on many challengers as champion.
