Jeremy Stephens def. Gilbert Melendez
Jeremy Stephens studied the blueprint laid out by Edson Barboza in Gilbert Melendez’s last fight at 155 pounds: deliver brutal leg kicks. Melendez has a wide stance and Barboza capitalized on it, as did Stephens, who dropped Melendez multiple times in the fight with consistent and thudding leg kicks. Melendez continued to get up each time, at one point even receiving a nod of respect from Stephens, but he ultimately lost by unanimous decision, 30-26, 30-26, 30-25. Stephens won the significant strike battle, 94-48.

THEY SAID IT:
Jeremy Stephens: “ It feels incredible to get the win tonight. Gilbert is as tough as they come so I knew that he wouldn’t stop but there were a couple of moments where the referee seemed like he was going to stop it. Once, I kicked him and the referee stepped in front of me but he never waived off the fight so it was a little strange but it was a fun scrap. I’m not thinking about anything else but going home and getting married right now. I’ll figure out what’s next after that!”
