She’s a hundred percent correct, but in a sport where fighters are often judged by the end result, turning a 4-3 UFC record into 4-4 by losing a short notice fight is risky. Godinez doesn’t agree.

“I just think, what’s the worst thing that could happen?” she said. “I lose? I get my face cut up? I get a bruise on my hand or my knee or whatever? A few weeks go by and then I get back to training, and I can fight again in three months and get back to the win column. So I just look at the worst possible scenarios. Then I look at the pro scenarios, the good stuff. Well, my name gets out there, it gets me another win, and I fight. And honestly, Angela Hill and Calvillo are way harder fights than her. I already passed those girls because they have so much experience. And I get another paycheck, and the UFC loves me even more and I get to do what I love one more time, and I got a new contract, so the positives are just so much more positive than the non-positives.”

Can’t argue with that logic, and even though the 29-year-old didn’t get a full camp for the talented Ducote, she did go three hard rounds with Calvillo, and after recovery, she’s probably still sharp both cardio and technique wise. But the question is, if she gets through this weekend’s fight unscathed, is she asking for a date in Vancouver on June 10?

“If they ask me, yeah.”

But is she asking?

“I’m going to see how my body feels, let’s see how it goes,” Godinez said. “And then, yeah, definitely. I think I should be good. And it would be amazing to be share a card with Irene (Aldana), too.”
